Irrfan Khan Slams National Film Federation For Oscars Faux Pas

In an interview with me today, noted actor Irrfan Khan slammed the National Film Federation of India for doing a half hearted job by ignoring a film like Paan Singh Tomar by not making it India's official entry to the Oscars. Irrfan has ironically never won a National Award for any of his stellar performances.

When I told Irrfan that he won Filmfare award for best negative role for Haasil, he smiled. He said that even for Paan Singh Tomar new categories will be created and true justice won't be done in the popular awards category. He is hopeful that his hard work and brilliance of Paan Singh Tomar will be recognised at the National Awards platform.

Irrfan says that he is not disappointed by the manner in which his role was chopped off in Spiderman. He says that the director had intimated him why his scenes were removed. He says that he has a well defined role and substantial screen space in Ang Lee's 'Life Of Pi'. But you are nowhere to be seen in the posters or the standees. "In subsequent posters, I'll be there," Irrfan said. Irrfan was told by Ang Lee that they had to reshoot almost the entire film but in hindsight he feels it was very good for the film. The tough part for Khan was getting the English, French and Canadian accent right.

Irrfan is doing two films with Tigmanshu Dhulia... Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster Part 2 and Bullet Raja. He owes a large part of his success to Tigmanshu.
